HT India Urban Flooding issues

Doing a special package on urban floods/ city drainage, I thought not many people would be interested in a topic like that. But I was wrong. I realised that even my mother had views on it. Once HT special package was out, we started getting interesting feedback, stories, pictures and even poetry from readers.

So as far as I am concerned, urban drainage is one of the most evocative issues for urbanites.

Ayan Banerjee, a Bombayite banker, currently based in London, feels strongly about recurring floods. He has this to say:

Wonderful article!

"Decent Urban drainage is synonymous with civilised living"...Absolutely!

I am a bombayite banker based in London and am considering/wondering relocating back:My dilemma is based on the the oximoron of "growth" stories and the "urban drainage flood" stories in the same edition!! Year after year, I see "Milan subway" (close to my residence in Juhu/Santacruz). Fed-up!!!

Remember that the "pledge" of "rich cultural heritage" of 5/6th std texts talking of "The Indus Valley cities" drainage...Have we regressed 5 thousand years???

Year after year we ask Johnny come lately Joseph and other Politicians (don't know who is in charge, latest) of these issues...No answers...Is it worth being a Democracy then?? Think about it - China is better off being autocratic/communist (esp. with 60% literacy defined dubiously) and with concerns about ' Mian-zi' to visitors that has led them to invest heavily in infrastructure.
